چکیده

Accounting for textual variation in the documents and queries processed by information retrieval systems is considered essential for achieving good retrieval. Recent research has called into question several ofthe techniques used to support this endeavor This paper reports on experiments with a concept based information retrieval system which relies on a program called MetaMap to accountfor textual variation in the process ofmapping biomedical text such as MEDLINE® bibliographic citations to the UMLS® Metathesaurus®. The experiments confirm that the effort expended in handling textual variation is well-spent for at least one type of concept based information retrieval.

Generating Rule-Based Trees from Decision Trees for Concept-based Information Retrieval

Web-based information retrieval systems may result in poor levels of precision and recall when users are required to articulate their own queries. Concept-based information retrieval attempts to solve this problem by allowing users to select from concept definitions specified by experts. However, it is unrealistic to expect experts to define every concept which will be of interest to users. The...

Concept Based Intelligent Information Retrieval within Digital Library

A digital library is a type of information retrieval (IR) system. The existing information retrieval methodologies generally have problems on keyword-searching. We proposed a model to solve the problem by using concept-based approach (ontology) and metadata case base. This model consists of identifying domain concepts in user’s query and applying expansion to them. The system aims at contributi...
